We were fortunate to have Earra Tours provide an excellent introduction to San Sebastian's food scene and etiquette on our first night in the city. The guide Jon was very knowledgeable, and presented the information in a fun and funny way. While they obviously have a huge love for the local langauge and culture, they were also honest about their critiques of certain places and methods and were presenting the best things they knee about without any commissions from the featured bars. If you plan on spending time in the bars and taverns eating pintxtos in San Sebastian, please take this tour as soon as you can to get a handle on the local scene.

Definitely take a tour with Jon. Our group of 8 ladies has the best evening crawling through San Sebastian experiencing unique Pintxos, food and wine. Jon is so knowledgeable and so adored by the local bar owners and now by us.

This has got to be my favourite small group tour experience, and I've done plenty. The food tour had a great variety of pintxo and wine, everything was 10/10 delicious. Our guide, Jon, was very knowledgeable and passionate about supporting high quality local vendors. He was super fun and enthusiastic, which helped group cohesion, and we were all treated like VIPs. I loved it so much that I also signed up for the coastal walk and wine tasting, which was another perfect experience with spectacular views and incredible wine. A must-do if you're in the region.

Just want to share the incredible experience with EARRA TOURS. We started in San Sebastián Old town for the Pintxo tour, and I have to say that was such a wonderfull path of new flavors and stories that Jon told the whole group. 3 hours of eating, drinking and walking around in one of the best cities in the world for a dinning expirence. After that we booked another tour with them because Jon was an amazing host and we went across the vasc cost to visit some small villages as well as to see the sunset by the cliffts with incredible views. We finished our journey in a Sidreria. Jon took us to this tipical restaurant that had(and believe me in this)one of the best meats that I’have ever had. 6 starts for this wonderfull company. We were first introduced to Jon through a food tour during our first trip to San Sebastián in 2024, and this initial experience was nothing short of brilliant. When we returned to San Sebastián for the second time recently, we had to contact Jon/Earra Tours for more adventures. This time, we did another food tour and a wine hike. Jon was fun, entertaining, and passionate, leading us to local pintxos bars and introducing us to amazing foods we never would have tried on our own. It was perfectly designed from start to finish. The day began not with a rush, but with a relaxing stop at a local market. Here, Jon set the tone for the journey, laying out a small spread of delicious local cheese paired with Basque cider. This simple start felt so authentic and personal. From there, we started our coastal hike. The trail was breathtaking—a scenic route that offered stunning views of the ocean meeting the green Basque hills. Jon kept us engaged, pointing out local farm animals and sharing fascinating stories about the history and geology of the coast. He also provided breaks at the most picturesque spots and took so many candid pictures. The culmination of the hike was a gorgeous, exclusive winery with beautiful views overlooking the landscape. The setting was spectacular and the wine tasting was a perfect, well-deserved reward after the hike. My parents and I went on a Basque country family history tour and we are so grateful to have found Earra Tours!! What started out as a wonderful pintxos and wine tour in San Sebastian Donostia turned into us booking two private tours with Jon, both of which were absolutely essential to our family history Basque country trip and that we could not have done without him! Jon had done all sorts of research before hand so he could create for us the best possible experience, including having notes on the family history names and birth places I had given him. Him speaking multiple languages, including English, Basque, and Spanish, was invaluable as well. He was a great safe driver and we loved being driven around in the comfort of his new Mercedes van. He was also a great photographer and so we got lots of great family portraits! He was hilarious and a wealth of knowledge about Basque culture. And even when we weren't booked on tours with him he offered all sorts of great suggestions for how to get around, where to buy specific items, etc. Jon was an absolute gem, and we will forever be grateful for the once in a lifetime experiences that he created for us.

Definitely recommend this experience. We did this on our second day and it’s definitely something you need to do at the very beginning of your trip. Our tour guide Jon was absolutely amazing!! He made sure to not highlight the popular pinxto bars, but he created what a gastronomica cooking club would look like, then we went to a more local known pinxto bar, and then a more quiet one. At each one we sampled 3-5 pinxtos and 1-2 wines. We also had dessert. We feel confident to know where to go and how to order. Plus we had a blast!!

Most fun food tour we have ever been on. Not only was the food and wine delicious… Jon the guide has so much knowledge of the food and culture! 10/10 Recommend!

Went to the market and pintxos tour and was afraid it would be cheesy and touristy but it was none of that! Jon was fun and engaging and has given us the best way to navigate the many pintxos bars which can be overwhelming without a proper guide. We really enjoyed that his picks were personal, unexpected and supported local farmers.

Excellent evening, a great group there were 6 of us and we all got on and shared a lot of laughter. Martin was a great host, full of great insights to the city, its history and cuisine. The latter being amazing, a great selection of stops and we throughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Jon was our guide and made our first day in San Sebastián a great one. He shared a lot of knowledge of the city and its restaurants in a fun manner. I had a very disappointing experience with Earra Tours in the Basque Country. I paid $2000 upfront for what was supposed to be Gabi guided tour package, but unfortunately, they completely scammed me. They failed to provide any services, ignored my calls and emails, and disappeared without a refund or explanation. This company is unprofessional and dishonest. I strongly advise against booking with them to avoid falling victim to their scam.

Did a pintxo tour in Donostia with Gabby, loved the tasting in the market followed by great food and drinks in the old town. Despite how easy it is to do your own pintxo crawl I’m still pleased we booked the tour, we had a great time and learned about local life.

We had a fabulous time with Jon. He coordinated a great day for us as we had limited time from our cruise ship stop. But we were able to fit in multiple towns, plus a small food tour and city tour in San Sebastien. He was very accommodating for the people in our group that had a hard time walking and were picky food eaters. He had great knowledge of the region, was very helpful and super fun to spend the day with touring. Would highly recommend anyone to take his tours.

This was our 2nd tour with Jon and we really enjoyed it. The tour introduced us to two beautiful villages outside San Sebastián - Zarautz and Getaria. We tried delicious local food and wines. The hike to the viewing spots was fun but not too challenging!. Jon is a great ambassador for the Basque region; we learned so much from him about the history of the region. We ended our tour with a fantastic grilled fish meal in Getaria at a restaurant recommended by Jon. And finished a great day with a mango/pepper sorbet. Thank you Jon. Highly recommend Earra tours.

Jon Gurrea took our family on a culinary and historical tour through San Sebastián's old town. We enjoyed delicious pintxos and learned about their origins, and learned about the history behind the high quality of Basque cuisine. We also enjoyed delicious wines at the various restaurants and bars we visited. Our teenage children also thought it was a fantastic activity. Thanks to Jon and his team for a wonderful evening and the great tips for our remaining days in beautiful San Sebastián!

Outstanding! Our group of 12 friends went on 3 tours with Earra Tours and all were so fun! The Pinxtos tour introduced us to the San Sebastián old town area with a variety of food and drinks. All were tasty. Our guide, Jon, explained the Basque culture and history of the region. Next we went on a coastal hike along part of the Camino de Santiago. The views were amazing. We sampled wine along the way at a local vineyard-so good!! Finally we took an all day trip to the French Basque region. Earra Tours drove us in very nice vans and our guides provided excellent overviews of the 3 cities we visited. Jon went above and beyond when booking the trips and throughout our stay in the region, even helping with airport transportation and restaurant reservations. We highly recommend Earra Tours and will definitely use them again if we return to the Basque area.

We've been on many food tours across several countries, and I can say, with confidence, that this is the best. Jon's gregarious personality and passion for the Basque food and culture is wonderful, and he chooses the most amazing restaurants and quality dishes to share. We took two very different tours with Earra, both of which were excellent and matched or exceeded our expectations. Communication with Jon was perfect. Arantxa our guide for the Pinxtos tour vibed a great energy and enthusiasm. Juan with whom we spent the next day on the Rioja tour was a delight of wine and local knowledge, we enjoyed both tours and guides, we highly recommend and will be hiring them again next year.

Visiting somewhere new & deciding where to eat can be overwhelming; this tour gave us a taste of multiple tasty pinchos in several local restaurants. Everything was very tasty and would highly recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. Our guide, Daria, was very informative and welcoming.

Daria (spelling?) was great and she took us to some wonderful places that had awesome pintxos and tasty regional wines. The group I was with was very welcoming even though I was a solo participant. Daria also went out of her way to recommend some great local non-tourist restaurants. I've done many of these types of city foodie tours from Iceland to Italy and the USA to Japan and this one was one of the best because of the region and our guide.

Earra Tours' guide Borja led our group of four on a wonderful walk along the Atlantic Coast in the Basque region of Spain (often referred to as the Final Flyche hiking trail). The views were absolutely stunning and Borja shared his knowledge the about history of the Basque region in Spain and the geology of the "Flyche hike" coastline we walked along -- all of it super interesting and informative. He regularly paused to check in to see if he was sharing too much or too little (we all found it to be just right). We all had a great time!

Fabulous pintxos tour in San Sebastián! Loved staring at the market with some beautiful charcuterie and olives and olive oil. Wonderful little bars with wine and cider and our host was super friendly and knowledgable.

Did the pintxos food tour with Darya the next day and she was amazing and so knowledgeable! It was so fun! Did the winery trail with Earra as well a few days later! Jon helped my fiancée and I get a reservation with only a few days notice, and we ate the best fish we have ever tasted. Earra is literally single handedly making our trip unforgettable!

Booked a food tour in San Sebastián. I can’t say enough good things about this tour, the food, the guide Jon. It was very worth it. Jon made the whole group feel like part of the community and the food was amazing!

He was so engaging and knowledgeable of both the history and culture of the area (he is a local!), and we had delicious food and wine/cider/aperitifs. I strongly encourage booking this for your first day in town as it will give you the confidence to then venture out to experience the diverse and amazing food of San Sebastián on your own for your remaining days. I would use Jon for any of his tours as his array of knowledge was vast. I am confident he’d provide an excellent guide to the whole region. We will definitely be using him again on future visits.

I have to say, the Rioja day trip with Jon was the highlight of our trip to North Spain: the views, high caliber wine tasting, history … simply wow! The caves under Carlos’ winery: Not to be missed. If you take one tour when you're in Basque Country, make it this one! Jon and his team are amazing. We spent a day with Jon visiting wineries in La Rioja, and had an absolutely great time. Jon is very knowledgeable about wines and wine making and has personal relationships with wineries throughout the region. You will meet the winemakers, taste amazing wines, tour boutique family owned wineries, and stop for lunch at a local restaurant--again to sample foods you might otherwise never experience. There is just no way that you would ever know about any of these amazing places on your own. I won't spoil it, but Jon has a couple of special surprises up his sleeve that will absolutely amaze you. Jon is full of stories, and knows the region intimately because this is his home. He was fun to spend the day with and we will absolutely return for another tour on our next trip.

We can’t rate this tour highly enough! Telmo was a fantastic host. He gave us loads of interesting facts, taught us some of the local Basque language, took us to loads of fab places, and we ate and drank so much we were absolutely stuffed! As this was both my husband and my first time to Spain I took months scouring the internet planning our trip. We decided on only one tour because we love to explore on our own. One of the stipulations was we didn’t want to be on a big group tour and we wanted more of a “boutique” experience. I came across Earra Tours and first noticed all the 5-star reviews, I also noticed that the group tours were limited to no more than 8 people. Even more enticing were the type of tours offered, specifically the Camino De Santiago/Winery tour which is what we booked. Jon was in communication with us leading up to the tour with very clear instructions on where to meet etc. When we arrived to meet Jon at the train station there was only one other couple on the tour which made our experience feel almost private. Jon, being born and raised in Basque has a wealth of knowledge of the region (and of wines) and if it weren’t for him and his tours I would have not seen the beauty of Basque outside of San Sebastián. Literally the rolling hills along the coastline is something you can’t even describe, you must see it for yourself. Jon is really funny and personable and our time flew by. The hike was mild and although at an incline it wasn’t difficult. By the time we got to the winery, the 4 of us on the tour decided we wanted to book Jon’s pintxos tour. He made special accommodations and we booked a semi-private tour with our new friends we met for the next night. The Pintxos tour was so much fun! We shared plates and wines and Jon offered us what we couldn’t have got on our own, he knew what specialty dishes each bar offered (sometime not even on the menu) literally we tasted things that were so unbelievably delicious. Again, our time on the pintxos tour flew by and we were sad to say our final goodbye to Jon. He really is a treasure and we felt privileged that he shared some of Basque beauty and culture with us. If you made it through my novel of a review, do yourself a favor and look no further than Earra Tours!! you won’t regret it.

We’ve taken group and private excursions all over the world and our tours with Earra Tours Basque Country were amongst the best. Well organized, highly professional, great communications when organizing, knowledgeable, flexible to meet our needs and very friendly team (Jon and Temos). We took three separate tours from San Sebastián; Rioja, Hiking to Getaria and a Marathon Pintxos in Old Town and could not have been more happy……they thought of everything to ensure that we had a good time. Our tour with Earras Tours in San Sebastian tonight was fantastic! Arantxa, our guide, struck the perfect balance between fun and informative, giving us an authentic view of San Sebastian that only a local could provide. The highlight was diving into the world of pintxo bars—Arantxa introduced us to incredible spots we never would have found on our own. The food was outstanding, and we learned what makes the pintxo culture so unique and special. Each stop was better than the last, and Arantxa’s insights added so much depth to the experience. We had a wonderful time with our sweet tour guide, Arantxa (I hope I spelled the name right) discovering the food culture of the region. Trying out some nice ham, cheese, olives, etc at the market and visiting the local bars like the locals was so much fun! My personal favorite was the tuna at Txacolina. I would highly recommend this tour to the foodies with curiosity about the local food culture.

We went on the Pintxos Foodie Experience tour with Jon in San Sebastian. Highly recommend doing a food tour with Earra Tours! I booked this with a group of 10 friends and it was one of the highlights of our trip to San Sebastián. Jon was very engaging and took us to some great spots for typical pinxtos as well as ones we would not have discovered on our own. Two of us were pregnant, and he was incredibly mindful of that throughout the tour - calling ahead to get us different food options than the rest of the group, making sure our meat was well done, or making sure there were non-alcoholic drink options for us. This level of service really stood out. He was also fun to talk to and gave my group some tips on other places to check out after our tour. You won’t regret booking this tour!

You will love Jon within a few minutes of meeting him. This review is long overdue, but very much needed for such a great tour operator. We had the pleasure of using Earra Tours for two days for a private tour of Basque Country. Not only did he customize our tours to accommodate our needs; 1.) driving tour from Bilbao to San Sebastián with unique experiences on the way, 2.) excellent food tour of tapas and drinks, 3.) special and extravagant steak meal and tour with the owner, and 3.) unique local shopping stops that were NOT tourist traps. Wonderful Pintxos & wine tour. Telmo our guide was fantastic, we started in the marke tasting han, cheese & olives. Then headed out to a number of different bars. Every Pintxos was different & tasty but pairing them with the correct wine took it to another level. Telmo explained each one gave lots of insights & happily answered all our questions. The your kept numbers small (8) & it was great sharing with like minded people. Such a GOOD thing to do would highly recommend!

Jon was very friendly and knowledgeable! We booked on short notice but Earra Tours was very gracious and accommodating. We enjoyed delicious food and had a wonderful time!!

Our guide was pretty good - we learned some good history about the area and the background of Pintxos. Some of the bites were quite good like the cheesecake at the end and the olives and charcuterie to start (in the market). A few others were quite good too but the last spot (before the cheesecake) was a disappointment for sure, although the wine was good. This was not quite worth the $380 Cad we paid though. Very small bites of food and wine which as we know is quite inexpensive here. We paid less at our Michelin restaurant the night before, for a multi course meal. Would recommend this tour as a way to get out and see more of San sabastien for sure and to meet like minded travellers.

Our tour guide Arantxa was very kind and knowledgeable. She told us the history of pintxos. All the pintxos we ate were superb. Arantxa also chose the best wine/cider to pair with the pintxos we ate.

Best way to get a large variety of foods and sample many items, all the while learning how to navigate the process of ordering, drinking and eating to most enhance the experience. The small restaurants were not too busy the night of the tour, but they get very busy in summer and if you don’t know how to order or what to order you will probably get ignored. This tour was a great introduction to the food by a knowledgeable local guide. Thanks. This was my favorite.

We had an amazing evening with Jon of Earra Tours last night in San Sebastián. Our gastronomic tour started in the main market with some delicious hams and olives before we headed into the old town for several delicious visits to the best Pintxos bars and restaurants. The food was accompanied by some lovely local wines and cider and the whole evening was capped off with a gorgeous cheese cake and some dessert fortified wine. Jon is incredibly knowledgeable about all the food and wine and makes sure he brings you to locally owned bars where the provenance of the food is Basque. The Earra pintxos tour was the absolute highlight of our time in San Sebastián! Sure he will deliver on the food, I mean really deliver. But he takes you into the country to see things only the locals will usually see. He took us from village to village, farm to farm. We visited the coast and a vineyard and even a beautiful church tucked away in a tiny township that looked modest on the outside and blew us away on the inside! The day started with Jon picking us up from our hotel, that's right, from our hotel at 9:00 in the morning. We left and immediately went to a sheep farm and dairy where we were able to meet the sheep and see how they were milked twice a day. We then went into the cheese making part of the dairy where we were able to see cheese being made, the cheese maturation room and then we were treated to a sit-down breakfast of sorts, complete with several cheeses, including the very one we just saw being made. It was basically a ricotta-like loose and unaged cheese that was 15 minutes old. Delicious! The highlight of the meal was the very Basque cheese called Idiazabal which is quite similar to Manchego, just mind-blowing fresh and therefore better. The next stop was a trip to a picturesque pig farm and ranch where the Basque pig is being saved from the brink of extinction. We toured the farm, visited the barn where the piglets were being reared by their mothers and then into the Disney perfect ranch house for a lunch of cured pork, bread, an egg and wild mushroom scramble (yes the eggs were from their chickens and the wild mushrooms were foraged on the farm), and then a perfectly cooked and seasoned cut of beef from one of their cows! Want to talk farm to table? Jon delivered! How far does your food travel to get to your mouth? Ours that day? Maybe several hundred feet or less! Lastly on our tour we went to a txakoli vineyard to talk grapes, fermentation and have a wine tasting! Jon made sure to take us off the beaten path along each trip, even taking us to forage for wild mushrooms ourselves. Our day was scheduled to take us from 9:00am to 4:30pm, but we were having such a great time we didn't get back to the hotel until 6:00pm. During the day together Jon told us that he was taking a group of four on a pintxos tour at 6:30pm. We asked if he had room for two more and he did, so we joined them 30 minutes later for several.more hours of Jon's funny sense of humor, stories and lessons of the Basque language and culture. Make no mistake if you join Jon for one of his tours you will laugh. You will learn a lot about what it is to be Basque, and you will have food experiences that will blow you away! You will not have ever had a day like this, nor taste food like it either. One side note the tour I described. It does not exist. Jon made it up for us due to our time constraints. He is that accommodating. He did admit he wants to spend as much time as possible at places he takes his clients, and prefers not to do three stops in a day and feel rushed. He is that interested in teaching you all the Basque country has to offer. Check him out! You will never have a tour better than what Jon delivers. Trust me!

Wonderful tour with Jon! He is very passionate and knowledgeable about Basque Country and local traditions. He coordinated a lovely winery day for us in the Rioja region focusing on smaller wineries that taught us the history of wine in the region and tasted delicious! We visited three wineries with a tour and tastings all led by great representatives from each winery. (We even visited a local cemetery that highlight led both old and new.) The day was competed with a traditional meal in a cave in a neighboring town. The wine, views, and Jon really made this a unique experience. The entire day was catered to our interests and needs. I’d highly recommend Jon and Earra Tours!

I really enjoyed this tour and can recomend it to anyone! We started in the market where we get to try ham and olives which was the best olives I have ever tasted. Then we continued to the tapas reasturants and tried several different pintxo-tapas and different wine and also cider. Everything tasted so good and John the tourguide was very friendly and explained alot of history of San Sebastian, the basque culture and you will also learn the most important words in Basque! 😄 This tour will give you many laughs and the best experience to have the best pintxo-tapas in San Sebastian.

While visiting the amazing Pintxos restaurants of San Sebastián, we also learned a lot about the history of this special city. The food we got on this tour was so good! I tried some thing I had never tried before and was pleasantly surprised. The wines and cider was paired great with the food we got, I will definitely try to find these bottles back in Sweden. And then we had the cheesecake, a must try dessert! I tried it as a lactose intolerant and it was all worth it :D And still the best part of the tour was our lovely guide Jon. He was very informative without ever talking to long. Together with the food he made this tour to an unforgettable experience. I really recommend taking this tour. Preferably in the beginning of your stay in San Sebastián, because you will also get great tips of what to do and see for the rest of your stay in the city.

The food was amazing, and we would never have managed to find these special bars on our own. Wine or juice to follow, good stories and a bit of history. From the moment we were picked up we were made very welcome from a very warm personality in Jon. The wineries we visited were all top class and the lunch was very special indeed. If you’re thinking of choosing between this tour and another don’t think twice, this was the highlight of our great trip to Donostia. Topa! Ps. Well, after quite enough of this Covid nonsense, I finally made it back to the Basque Country, and without 'further a do', booked a couple more tours with the indefatigable Jon, from Earra Tours, and in typical fashion, magician that he is, he exceeded every expectation once again. Firstly, the Pintxos Food Tour: Donostia literally has hundreds of Pintxos establishments, ranging in price and quality, so narrowing the field can be a particularly daunting task for those looking to make the most of their limited time, and let's be honest, we all seek the reassurance that we've been privvy to the best on offer. This is where Earra Tours excels, as a tour with Jon, who literally knows EVERYONE (people and places), ensures that expectation through his selection of the most trusted/consistently revered and award winning establishments, with some of the regions top chefs, offering a truly memorable gastronomic experience. 5 Stars! Secondly, the Private Rioja Wine Tour: Love my plonk (wine). Have my favourite varieties and regions from around the globe. Have been familiar with the Rioja wine region for quite some time, having tasted the fruits (literally) of the regions labour of love, on several previous visits to Spain, but I had never visited the region, and in that regard, had done myself a huge disservice. Being Australian, and predominantly predisposed to our 'big reds', I suppose I felt that Spain just wasn't 'up to par', and had the conception that Riojo was a rather barren and uninviting place.... Boy was I so very WRONG. Rule number one, when looking to visit a wine region, and by extension, multiple wineries, is to get someone else to do the necessary driving, so tours are more or less an obligation. Jon from Earra Tours to the rescue once again, collecting us in Donostia (San Sebastion), driving us all the way there for what must be one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the Country, and when we arrived, well I had to eat my words, or thoughts at the very least, because it is breathtaking countryside, rolling hills just covered in vines, large escarpments, prominent estates, all 'picture postcard' stuff, and some of the most hospitable and generous residents you're likely to meet. The wine, again spoilt for choice, but Jon treats you to a very select (and smart) array of Wineries/Vintners, by showcasing a few of the best, who specialize in particular aspects of the industry. The traditionalist, the boutique, and the innovative, the tried and tested, and the experimental, the antiquated, and the sustainable. All very impressive, I indulged/imbibed in an elegant sufficiency of 'grapes', remember eating some delectable local products (cheese, cured meats, fragrant olive oils and infused salts, olives, breads, etc.) and didnt see a thing on our return trip, only waking up as we arrived back at our hotel. The highlight of my trip to Spain's Basque Country was actually the tour with Earra. Jon was awesome, has a positive demeanor, super knowledgeable and provided so many local insights. I learned so much during my tour with him. From the walk by the beach in Zarautz to the market tour, the hike around Txakoli wine region, encounters with numerous friendly locals, and the tour around Getaria, I highly recommend Earra tours. If I had more time in the San Sebastian area, I would've gone on another tour with him. I'll definitely reach out to him the next time I'm there!

I wasn't sure about going on a tour in Donosti, it's not my kind of thing, but my wife insisted and boy she was right! Excelente. Una experiencia buenisima. Jon es una persona de la zona, con mucha buena energia y un gran anfitrion. Nos llevo a lugares que no hubieramos encontrado si no fuera por él. Comimos como en ningun lugar en España. Los Pintxos fueron brutales. LLevo 10 años visitando España y no habia comido como esta vez! Increible. Best thing I did in Donostia was book Earra tours. Getting shown around by a local made all the difference as Jon took me to places I never would have found otherwise and got me into restaurants I otherwise couldn’t get into with such short notice. Jon’s high energy is contagious as he makes suggestions and adapts the tours to your specific needs. He is also completely bilingual in English and Spanish. I will definitely use Earra tours again and will recommend them to my friends when they go to Basque Country.
