I have a home in Spain and rent a lot of cars and have had my share of bad experiences as has probably everyone reading this review. However over the last year I have found La Linea staff extremely professional, friendly and supplying quality cars. Goldcar La Linea is a 5 minute walk once leaving the airport and then pickup is in an underground car park a further 5 minute walk from their office. For complete peace of mind I recommend getting a full to full fuel policy, unlimited milage and taking out a separate travel insurance cover (much cheaper, loads online if you aren't already covered by your credit card) and ALWAYS take photos of your car's milage and exterior damage on pickup and drop-off to cover yourself from any misunderstandings. Good luck.

I hire a rental car provided by GoldCar via DoYouSpan in La Linea (Next to Gibraltar) few week ago. Because I need to return the car before 9am, so I dropped the key to the letter box because local office has not opened yet. In the same day afternoon, I received the deposit back but there was 63 Euro charge, I email GoldCar to find out what the charge was about. Then GoldCar staff replied that I need to speak to DoYouSpain, despite the charge of 63 EURO shown on the card was from GoldCar. I did submit the request to DoYouSpain to enquire/find out what happem in 1st Sep 2025, but after 7 days, I have not heard anything from DoYouSpain's support either. This is first time in my life booking/renting a car without any invoice/receipt/follow-up paper works after returning the car, by email or any form of modern communication. The final receipt/invoice have been missing. The staff from GoldCar did not bother to explain that 63 EURO charge to me over email. I don't think other customers and I would ever get the their explanation on the follow up charge/fee beyond the scope of initial hire contract's paperwork. I would never use them again, or recommend them to anyone I knew.

We have been overcharged. Called the office twice & sent three emails to Andres still no response. Now forced to escalate complaint to the head office with Case reference #24198580. Please would you be kind enough to refund us the £236.04 that was taken from my wife’s credit card on 21st August as was promised. I’m sorry to say if this is not actioned we will have no alternative but to report the disagreement to our credit card company. Delighted to take down this negative review once our complaint has been dealt with.

I’ve used Goldcar 4 times now and have always had a great experience. The staff at La Línea de la Concepción are great and also at Jerez airport. I don’t take any additional cover and everything has always worked out well.

The best car rental experience I've had by far. Didn't take a fuel deposit as the car wasn't completely full (7/8 of a tank) and ensured it was clear on the paperwork and system. Car was in good condition with both small bumps clearly marked on the paperwork. We were even given advice on returning the car without issues as we were taking it on a one way trip and they wanted to make sure this didn't cause any trouble. Didn't push on additional insurance at all and the whole experience was fast and friendly.

The wait time if there's a queue is interminable! Completely inefficient. Why don't they set up the key pick up like in other airports?? The cars are always completely wrecked and the damage is never noted correctly on pick up. Make sure you take photos and email on the day of pick up. They're the cheapest and proof that you get what you pay for I'm afraid!

As others have already stated here, they are running some sort of insurance scam. Upon returning the vehicle they sent me documentation that the car was in perfect condition and refunded 100% of the deposit. Then a few days later they sent me some photos of some light marks that could be removed with a good wash and waxing, and charged me £120. No documentation provided other than a couple of photos. When I referred to the original check in documents that stated the scratches were already there, they said they needed more proof in order to resolve the matter. EDIT I've been going back and forth with them, and they have been ignoring my communications. They have also made further charges to my card, without explanation. It's 100% a racket.

Renting a car from Goldcar was a very positive experience. The advance reservation minimized the amount of time needed at the desk and the staff were helpful with local information. The car was waiting within the Goldcar section of the underground parking garage which meant wet weather was not a problem picking up the car or returning the car. Office and car were both within just a few minutes walk from the frontier.

Similar to others! Kept a few hundred euros of my deposit and no explanation! Car was returned with zero damage. Thankfully I have an insurance waiver, but I can’t even get an invoice from these thieves. AVOID!

Original post: INSPECT YOUR CAR WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS! These guys are running an insurance scam. We picked up the car in La Linea. The agent said the car was in "perfect condition" and there were no scratches. Car was parked in an underground, dark parkade about 300 m away so we could not inspect it with the agent present. We could not drive to the agent because they do not have parking. So we took a video and pictures after and sent it to the customer service email. The car had many scratches and dents. We returned the car to Barcelona aiport. The agent walked around the car and few times and could not see anything. Then he started really inspecting the car and said we scratched a bumper and the roof. You literally could not see anything unless you came 5 inches away from it with your face. We were able to prove that the bumper was already scratched and they took off the bumper charge 200 euros after numerous emails with the customer service. I could not prove the roof scratch was not done by us because who takes pictures of the roof??? And also, the car was not exactly polished when we picked it up so we would not have seen it anyway. Literally a hairline scratch on the roof. Picture is attached. You can assess if you can see it. We could not even see it with sun shining on it! But our flight was leaving (which is the whole idea) and we had no proof. Which is also the whole point. Genius scam. Funny thing, there were deep scratches on the side of the car that were not marked on the initial report but the agent paid no attention to them. They already know which scratches to go after. They know nobody pays attention to the roof. INSPECT YOUR CAR WITH MAGNIFYING GLASS and mark everything. We got charged 350 euros for a hairline scratch on the roof, We had our own insurance but yeah, this is their business model. FOLLOW UP: I have already dealt with Goldcar customer service and that is how I proved that we did not scratch the bumper. The charge for a hairline scratch on the roof is NOT REASONABLE AND A SCAM. The reply to my review is just an automatic response.

Excelente. Recomiendo. Si pagas el seguro full, no tenes q dejar deposito con tarjeta y te cubre todo, viajas tranquilo. Solo el del combustible por si no lo devuelves lleno. Te devuelven el dinero a los pocos días. Nos dieron un vehículo perfecto. Nos atendieron muyy bien, ambos integrantes de la oficina de La Linea de la Concepción. Mas que satisfecho.

Alquilé un coche el 19 de diciembre pasado por 6 días. Solo lo utilicé para venir desde el aeropuerto de Málaga a La Línea, y devolví el coche 3 días antes porque no lo necesité mas. No solo no me devolvieron nada sino que me penalizan con 50€por no haber repuesto los 13€ de gasolina que consumí. A 17 de Enero aun no me han devuelto la fianza de 160€ que retuvieron. definitivamente, No lo recomiendo en absoluto.

7/1 REPLY - YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM IS THE ONE I HAVE BEEN SPEAKING TO WHO ARE OF NO HELP Do not fall into this trap... I rent cars all over the world and they have the worst handover process and will bill you for uncaused damage. Been battling them for a 3 weeks now. No one will inspect the car with you on pick up, the cars are parked 5 mins walk away and they tell you to send a video in if you see any damage... HOWEVER the staff draw a line on a piece of paper about 2 inches long and say dont worry if smaller than this. In actual fact its 2cm so much much smaller and super ambiguous. The car park is also dark and dingy to be able to see anything. See photo attached for how ridiculous they are being On drop off there is also no handover and inspection, again very poor service. I handed the keys back and the car was signed off and suddenly a number of days later i got a 150 euro bill for a scratch 2cm long. There was no proof given of when that was noted as it may well have happened in the car park itself after drop off. DO NOT USE GOLDCAR, If you must make them come with you to the car park to inspect as they have some shady dealings. Dont be fooled by the reviews on Google..

Great company with great staff, office conveniently located for car collection, I've used this company in Gibraltar, Màlaga and Cyprus and the staff are consistent everywhere I've been, professional, happy and eager to help. Their Super Relax insurance package though not cheap, is competitive and gives complete peace of mind. You're not forced to take but a significant surcharge will be levied against your credit card if drive without it.

Do not use this service. They are disgracefully dishonest and will keep a significant amount of your deposit without explanation. I queried why I 264.70 euros of my deposit had not been returned. See the response from the Gibraltar International Airport branch below. I challenged this, as the car was actually returned clean, and the 114.70 euro refund they claimed was pending was a lie. After 2 weeks there is still no sign of it. Their response to my email was just a copy and paste of the very same initial response. Goldcar clearly have a habit of keeping a significant percentage of the customer deposit without explanation. Let alone any evidence of any damages. They then appear to save routine responses that they send to anyone that challenges this. They may look cheaper than other services. But they will not return all of your deposit and will end up costing you more. See their dishonest email response to me below. "Good morning, The issue regarding the damage to the vehicle has been resolved; it was marked and then corrected. There is a pending refund of 114.70 euros. The other 150 euros have been billed by our outsourced cleaning service, who charged us for "severe special cleaning," as per the contract terms. In any case, I see that you have opened an incident with Customer Service, who will address any claims you deem appropriate. Thank you very much."

I guess “you get” (or not) what you pay for .. Regarding the extreme weather conditions at the time in the region (Civil Protection Alert) our arrival was delayed, however, I’ve already paid full price for a week and did online check-in including delivering required digitalised documents. All done !! Possibility of collecting the car later other than I stated previously was rejected !! I got refunded with !! €50 fine !! It’s not as about the amount, as it’s about the principle and right customer service within reasons. Very unreasonable approach to customer, really disappointing experience !! There is many other and better options around .. Avoid !! Cheaper is not always economical !

WON'T GET YOUR DEPOSIT RETURNED - Held money on deposit (1300) despite me having returned the car. They admitted it is not disputed but won't return the deposit. The English T&C (which they appended to the booking) does not have the provision that says they can hold your deposit. Tried to point me to the Spanish T&C. Amounts to fraud. Been over 20 days now and still no sign of it being returned.

I had to wait over an hour to collect the car on Saturday 28th September. The office is well located but too small and quite crowded. Their two staff members came across as blunt and angry at everyone and they didn't seem to enjoy their job. There was no car available from the group I had booked, even though my reservation had been confirmed a week earlier. Thankfully, they provided me with a larger car for no extra cost. The only advantage was that Goldcar was considerably cheaper than other car rental companies.

It was ok on pick up and return. Disappointed that there was no water in the windscreen reservoir and the electronic key did not work, when I reported this once by phone (I was told no one could help me at that point) and 3 times by email I got no response. Very poor way to deal with customers.

Patricia was super helpful both at the pick up and when I forgot something in the car after leaving. The car was new, clean and lovely to drive. Petrol was refunded promptly. On the pricey side but it was worth it as I had peace of mind with the insurance and enjoyed getting around. Thanks goldcar, will definitely use again.

We’ve used Goldcar in La Linea often for over a year and more often than not we got cars with issues. Be it the tires needing air or the car’s wheel alignment needing work... it’s always something. Last time we weren’t able to park in an underground parking in Puerto Banus because someone had left without paying with the same car and we were expected to settle their balance which is unacceptable.

De la grosse arnaque. À fuir !! On paie la location d'une bagnole pour le mois entier : 1000 euros avec une assurance. Arrivés à Séville on nous demande de payer encore 615 euros pour une prétendue assurance tous risques. Déjà la voiture louée a été sous-classée par rapport à ce qu'on a demandé.

I booked 2 cars in close succession. Very impressed by being given a much needed cup of water 1st time. They advised me to cancel my later booking because by exchanging my UK driving license for a Spanish one, the new license was less than 12 months old which they deemed to be an insurmountable problem.

Acabo de alquilar un coche y cuando lo recogi, todo genial. Habia un hombre que me atendio y todo muy bien, super atento explicando todo y demas. El problema fue que contrate lleno/lleno y cuando recogi el coche estaba como a tres cuartos y un poco mas, le hice fotos y demas. Pues al hacer el check-out, fui a la oficina y se lo dije a la chica que habia en el mostrador, que ya por como salian los clientes anteriores de descontentos, no me dio muy buena espina. Su respuesta al comentarselo fue ''ah vale, pero no entiendo que quieres'' como dandome a entender que ni se me va a reembolsar nada. Le comente que si fuera el caso al reves y lo hubiera dejado yo faltandole litros para estar lleno, que se me hubiera penalizado y me dijo directamente que si. Escribire al correo porque ya veo que en oficina algunos empleados, no estan muy por la labor de ayudar.

Rental desk is not at Gibraltar airport. Make sure you check that the vehicle is actually at the Gibraltar side as otherwise you'll be charged extra "minimum 25€ entry fee" to come to Gibraltar. Also vehicle wasn't checked properly and had many more scuffs and damage than declared, this added extra wasted time to document it and send email to the rental desk.

Booked car prior to arriving. It wasn't the car I paid for and therefore incurred additional costs. Felt like I was being ripped off to bed honest. This is the first time I have used gold car La Linea Spain. I was completely satisfied with the level of customer service I received both on arrival to pick up my vehicle and on retiring it. I paid a fuel deposit which was returned within 2 days of my hire ending. I will use this company again in the future and would recommend to other people.

On pickup of my car, I was charged a non refundable €25 admin fee for refuelling, when I clearly had a contract and booking that stated Full to Full. I objected and pointed out the error but was forced to pay if I wanted the car. Goldcar's Terms state they have a two fuel policies - a Full to Full policy (where there will be no admin fee) and an SDR Flex policy (where there is a fee). My booking very clearly states FULL to FULL. . However, when I returned the car Full I still did not get the Refuelling admin refund. Be warned!

We have used Goldcar on a number of occasions, and been very satisfied with them. On this occasion we landed in Gibraltar and walked across the border to the Goldcar office. It is a short walk of about 100m. The rental was conducted promptly and efficiency, and the Manager gave us a free upgrade to a slightly larger 4 door model, which was a low mileage vehicle in good condition. The return was also processed quickly and easily. Would certainly use them again.

Rented from Gold Car La Linea for four days great experience nice clean car great price less than 100 euros! The rental office is just a short walk from GIB airport on the Spanish side of the border. The cars are parked in an underground carpark short walk from the rental office. The gold car agent Andres was very pleasant and helpful even gave us a couple of recommendations for lunch at two nearby Tapas bars. Returning the car was equally simple quick and easy just park the car into the carpark and dropped the keys back at the counter. BTW the tapas place we went to was Meson La Serrana, excellent food great wines and chilled beers!

DO NOT USE GOLDCAR! I urge anyone reading this honest review NOT to use this car hire service no matter what £$€ you think you might be saving. I was charged €210 for a deep clean to a passenger seat that no one sat in the entire duration of my hire. I even took a photo when collecting the car but was assured I would NOT be charged (see photo). Firstly, you will be pressured to take out a high-cost insurance and threatened that ANY damage to the car will result in a loss of your deposit. ‘Some’ hire car companies might pay their representatives comission to sell insurance at a huge mark up even if you have already taken insurance with an App like RentalCar OR are already covered by a credit card service. The Vehicle. I was given a car that looked as though it had been in a serious road traffic accident including damage to the roof!!! (See photo of map of damage to the car). When I complained to the Goldcar representative in the office they said ‘Don’t worry, it drives okay and you will not be charged for any damage because every panel of the body work is already affected’. What I hadn’t accounted for were the human sweat mark stains on the passenger side that would not be included in the map of ‘damage’ to the vehicle so I took a photo for my own records as I felt that this was unhygienic and did not want to be held accountable when returning the vehicle (again, please see photo as evidence). When returning the car (at 5.30am) to the airport, I could not get the vehicle checked and had to drop the keys in a box. One hour later I received an email charging me €210 for a deep clean due to the state of the passenger seat - that I had documented and questioned when I picked the car up. Customer Service As of 2nd November, almost 6 weeks later, I have not been able to get in touch with a human being at Goldcar. They have ignored all my emails and any further investigation sends me to an email address which no one answers. It is impossible to speak on the telephone with someone and they will not call you at all. Please also note, that if they reply to this review, they will advise that I click on a link which is a landing page to a site that suggests I send an email to the address that I have been emailing since September…..with absolutely zero response (see photo of previous responses to review). In attempts to post an honest consumer review Goldcar have also blocked it several times citing ‘gibberish’ and ‘repetitive content’. If only they put as much effort into customer service as they do censoring feedback and reviews. In my experience, Goldcar make their money from renting out damaged vehicles then charging the customer for that damage made unless you take out their very costly insurance. Pay the extra money and go with a reputable hire car company. This is an overcharging business model with non existent customer service. Dear Goldcar, I am not going to stop attempting these honest reviews until this factual recount of my consumer experience is permanently on Google.

Warning. Be really careful while using Goldcars homepage. If you are booking, and paying, to another user you will not be able to get the car without being present at the desk inside the airport. The counter isn't at the airport but it's not a problem as anyway all rental companies keep cars in Spain. It even makes things easier as it's much faster to cross a frontier on foot than by car. After normal procedure at the counter (which was easy to find) I got exactly the same car I booked. It was new and in good condition. You return it at the same place but if Goldcar office is closed you can leave keys in the parking. The only problem was that I've never got a summarize of my rental and a deposit was released after a week or so. I understand that sometimes it takes time, but it would be good to get an information after rental if everything is fine and when a client can expect to get deposit back.

I like to share my experience. First time I rent with goldcar and my flight arrived at 9pm and because they closed at 8 they said they couldn't wait for mi to arrive. Even if I paid the 40 euros to them . The only solution they game I have to travel to Algeciras by bus and come back next morning by bus to pick up the car. I think they didn't been very helpful with me! And paid almost 300 pounds for 3 days really expensive!

He alquilado un vehiculo en esta compañia ubicada en el acceso a Gibraltar. Ha sido la vez que mejor me han tratado durante la gestion de alquiler de un coche, desde el señor, que con muchisima educación me explicó todo e incluso me dio a elegir entre varios coches que tenia disponibles.Hasta el chico que me recepcionó el turismo una vez finalizado el mismo. Me devolvieron la franquicia a los pocos minutos de entregarlo, ademas el precio fue muy ajustado.Lo recomiendo.

Rent with Goldcar all the time and again another smooth hassle free rental, I see the bad reviews and believe a lot of it is more misunderstanding, if u book with a third party they will sell u insurance, that insurance is not with Goldcar so Goldcar will sell u insurance as well, I book relax cover, pay the £300 on my credit card, always return the car with the correct fuel and always get my deposit back.

DO NOT RENT with GOLDCAR!!!! They are hiding the real terms and conditions with Goldcar (at least)! I paid insurance on doyouSpain, then with Goldcar either you leave deposit of 1100 euros , THIS IS NOT MENTIONED ON GOLDCAR site, either you pay insurance of 60 euro (for 2 days) + a fee for gasoline of 20 euros then the deposit for gasoline: from 172 euros I paid extra for a 2 days car I got back 88 euros from Goldcar! Also, if you want to leave the deposit of 1100 euros, you need a credit card, they don't accept debit and Goldcar will return your money after one week!

Once again Goldcar have deducted money from my credit card finding faults after dropping off. I personally checked marks before returning and found nothing new but Goldcar found a mark and I have been charged €100. You might get cheap car hire but Goldcar will find other ways to make money out of you

You know it's bad when I actually am motivated to write a review for the first time. I confirmed with the staff member at the counter the time of return for the rental period and verified it against the contract. I received an email from the Seville location saying the return was late and there was an additional charge. I spoke with them at their office only to be told that this was the decision of the La Linea location, who originally told me my return time was within the contract. 80 EUR later, I now need to review a bunch of fine print in a contract. And this is supposed to be a 'vacation'

They will try to scam you however possible. I myself had to pay for a "Super relax Cover" that I made clear I don't want. When signing the contract you have to sign a digital pad, not seeing what you are actually "agreeing" to. Customer support of course backs the whole scheme, they aren't any help. The company was fined 2 million euros by the European consumers protection. Doesn't seem to have improved their practices, wishing them a higher fine the next time 😊😇

We rented a car online in my fiancé’s name, but the credit card we paid for is in my name. When he went to take over he was told that he would have to pay another € 150 because the card we paid with was not in his name or we would rebook all with his name and card, but since he only has a debit card he will be charged extra as no credit card. I tried to explain to the staff that I also used my card for our previous booking and there was no problem then. Im sorry the guy because I was nervous and quarreling with hím, I know he's just doing his job, but If they have such rules, they MUST inform the customer! Eventually we were able to bring in another car, but we still paid about € 140 and € 56 which we paid online. I am very dissatisfied and this was the last time we rented a car from them !!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS This company seem to think it's ok to take money out of your account when it suits after the hire agreement. I was charged for fuel even though the car was bought back on full. We had to take loads of photos upon receiving the car as it was in a disgusting state and they hadn't recorded all of the damage on the car. I noticed another charge out of my account when I called I was told I had a speeding fine but no one thought to contact me to let me know this. La peor compañía de la historia. Me estafaron hecho y derecho. Me dieron un auto que le fallaba el alternador, me obligaron a llevarlo hasta Gibraltar para cambiarlo (yo estaba en tarifa), me cobraron el cambio de auto y la grúa (cuando el auto no arrancaba por tener descargada la batería) cuando el empleado al momento de hacer el cambio me dijo que no iba a tener que pagar ningún extra. Ademas, en ese percance me olvide el registro en la oficina y no quieren enviármelo porque "ellos no hacen envíos".

Very mean Customer Service. The Gibraltar flight got diverted to Malaga and when I called up to say that I will be late, they just declined stating that I have missed my window. All the money for the car rental lost as it was a non refundable booking. When I spoke to the Malaga branch, they asked for 6 times the price of the original booking. Useless.. We had a terrible experience with Goldcars. They were a suggested add-on to our flights to Gibraltar via a travel agent called 'Travel Up' at the price of roughly £50 for the week. This seemed like a great deal but don't be fooled and make sure you read up on them as we had a negative experience involving the following: • The rep in the store (eventually told us her name was Sala) was very pushy with insurance - initially offering us €200 for a weeks insurance, then eventually trying to haggle us to €70... So really not sure about how the pricing model operates, but clearly no consistency or order • The car was not the same one that we were told we would be getting • No clear explanation of how the re-fuelling process worked. We had been told that we would have to pay a fuel deposit that would be refunded if the car was returned with a full tank - although having read up online it looks like there are still hidden admin fees, so we expect to be charged later down the line. €120 euros was mentioned in-store, but we still to this day are not sure what it was for • Finally... the WORST part of all this was that when we collected the car, we asked how much it would be to add 2 additonal drivers to drive the same car during our stay. We were told that it would be "8 EUROS per extra driver for the 8 days total". This seemed reasonable so we added the extra drivers and paid. It was only when I later checked my bank statement that I realised I had been charged €88.82. We disputed this upon our return to be told that it was €8 per additional driver - per day. The rep (Sala) misled us on this key detail when we initially picked up the car. She denied not telling us this and was dispondant when we questioned it. Furthermore €8 per day for each 2 drivers over 8 days does not amount to 88.82. Upon disputing this claim the rep eventually directed us to the customer services email and begrudgingly gave us her name. We were left confused and annoyed with nobody in authority to directly consult, while also being out of pocket and in fear of further unsubstantiated charges to the credit card used for the insurance excess. All in all it counted for a sour end to our holiday. My advice is don't use Goldcar... but if you do, block them from attempting to charge your card - post using the service (my bank informed me they could block them from making any future charge). They will go to all lengths to charge you for hidden fees under the guise of a seemingly cheap initial cost.

Left a bad taste after what was a great week in Spain. I did not have my credit card so I agreed to the security deposit to be deducted from my bank account. I was given the option of a deduction in pounds sterling or euros and I chose pounds sterling. An amount of £1087 was deducted from my account. I returned the car completely undamaged and with a full tank of petrol. I was told by the Gold Car representative that it was fine and that there were zero charges to be applied. (I had also taken out the zero excess additional insurance) On my return to the UK I was only returned £989. I have subsequently found out that Goldcar has made the following errors: 1) I have been charged 21 euros from a fuel surcharge despite returning the car with a full tank of fuel. Goldcar have said this is a Flex fuel system which makes no sense at all. 2) The amount returned to me was in euros instead of GBP and as a result I incurred bank charges for a different currency. To date Goldcar have not refunded me the amount they have fraudulently retained or provided me with any paperwork relating to the hire. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Po vrácení auta zaúčtovali několik set EUR bez jakýchkoliv dokladů a oprávnění, jsem nucen řešit s bankou. Obsluha na letišti hrozná, roboti opakující stále stejné věty, zakazník je to poslední. U přepážky jen jeden pracovník a jiný se vrátil za 20 minut, ve frotně stálo asi 12 lidí. Už při přebírání auta mi vnucovali o třídu nižší, dle jejich pojetí je Škoda Fabia a Ford Focus na stejné úrovni. Při požadavku na jiné auto chtěli příplatek za dieselový motor a tak by šlo pokračovat.

I could have refuelled the car myself in Gibraltar not to pay the extra cost of refuelling the car in Spain. They probably refuel the car in Gibraltar and charge you the price of Spanish petrol to make money with your money. My advise.... pay a bit more for the car and rent the car elsewhere, avoid this company at all cost!!!!!!!

No problems with rental - but tricky lugging lots of bags to airport. Car as booked, full of fuel, a few scratches but all recorded on info sheet. Easy pick up (eventually) although not helped by BA diverting us to Malaga! Very quick pick up and drop off. Deposit on card refunded promptly - nothing taken off for small amount of sand in car from kite kit (sorry!). Have to walk a few hundred yards across border to airport - no problem for most but we did have loads of heavy bags and no trollies. Office shuts 9pm but customer service (answered quickly) suggested may be possible up to 10pm. Office in Malaga did offer us option of car from there and drop off GIbraltar - but would have cost additional 200 euros. Gibraltar taxis at airport itself. If going into Spain then 5mins walk - just on rhs as you cross border (70 euros to Tarifa). Would be happy to use again. (Do check fuel level as our friends renting from Malaga only noticed not full when already en route)

It's not so much the staff from the office but Goldcar the company. They are cheap in price for a reason. So many loopholes , hidden extras , non disclosed costs , fine print that never seem to be all visible at the time of booking ....it literally puts a dampener on your break before you start! I urge everyone to take extra care when booking and take as many pictures of as many angles of the car before you drive away.

Make a favour to you and your family and give attention to the reviews about this company. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! That's a crime and a cheat what they are doing. First of all, in the reservation, there is the information that the company is located in Gibraltar Airport and it's a big lie because its real location is in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain. They should offer a transport for all the consumers but they don't do it. We called to the company and we were answered by a rude HORSE who said (screaming) that if we want the car, we should cross the border (passing through queues and immigration bureaucracy) and walk 1 km with a child and a lot of luggage. We ran out of the car during our trip. Don't use this company!

Didnt have the horror experience of others but car was very dirty and their fuel charges are quite weird. Would just pay a little more and go with one of the mainstream ones instead if rented again.

Delivered my car back on Friday evening tank empty as I had not been told to bring it back full plus i checked there contract and it does not mention a clause where they want to charge you full tank of petrol plus 50 Euro penalty!! I will be rejecting this fee with my credit card company

I've used GoldCar many times before, often for 3 - 4 weeks at a time so I'm pretty knowledgable about their extra fees and their dodgy ways but after a recent ordeal with them, I will never be using this half-arsed, cowboy company again. I was given a Kia Picanto with about 6,000km on it. I drove the car away to a supermarket only a few kilometres down the road and noticed the clutch was not right. There was no pressure in it and it was loose. I returned the car in a matter of hours, once I'd finished at the shop. I took the keys back to the desk where the lady behind the counter told me to keep the car and not to worry about it, that all "Kia's clutches are like this" after I showed her a video of the floppy clutch pedal. I insisted it was obviously not right and I wanted to exchange it. She agreed and gave me another car. I assumed that was the end of it. After 3 weeks I took back the other car with no problems. Got my deposit back etc. Then I got a charge on my card of €1000! Fortunately, I don't live far away so I was able to go back to GoldCar and ask what was going on. Woman behind the counter had no idea why I had been charged and there was no manager for her to ask. She said to send an email and the manager would be in touch. I sent an email, waited 3 days and no reply. Went back in which is when I found out that they wanted to charge me for the clutch on the broken Kia they had originally given me! I have since been in the shop 6 times, sent 4 emails and have no response back. The shop staff tell me I need to speak to the manager who only works "some days in the mornings or until 3pm". The only thing they say is "we check all our cars"... despite the obvious evidence. I have been totally scammed. They gave me a bait, broken car and am now trying to slap me with a huge bill for something I never/couldn't have done in the short amount of time. I have tried every avenue with them but get no response and have simply taken my money and ran. If they could be bothered to look at the evidence they could quite clearly see it wasn't done by me but they don't care. Don't play the GoldCar lottery, you could easily end up the victim like me, I would urge you to pay just a bit more and go with a reputable company. If you want to find out more about them and their well publicised scams, do a quick google search for "goldcar the sun".

Should have read the reviews before I booked, It is a scam it is made to look like the cheapest option online but when you get there they sting you for other random charges. Firstly we were unaware of a "fuel deposit" and one of the staff repeatedly lied to my face saying that the deposit that we had to pay we would get back when we return the car back full. As it turns out this is not true as they charge a 20 Euro "admin fee" for fueling up the car yourself.. they also made us pay another 25 euros for having a drivers license for less than 3 years (another thing not mentioned on the booking). In addition to this the cars are banged up, and the staff are awful, they just tell you whatever so they can get you out of the office. In response to Victoria below: Thanks for your unhelpful response. I never agreed to the flexi fuel option as I said your customer service rep assured me that I would get my full deposit back. If he had explained that you get your deposit less the admin fee there is no way I would have agreed who in their right mind would? that option makes no sense whatsoever. It's the fact that I questioned him about the invoice and tried to get him to explain to me why the charges were all split up and as invoice is in Spanish it takes advantage of people who don't understand the local language. He said whatever could to get rid of me.

I don't usually write reviews, but felt compelled to with this company. Be very very careful, they charge all sorts when you arrive claiming you will get it all back, and of course that's where the fight starts. I was cautious and made sure everything was A OK before leaving, but still the refunds are not complete and little bits of money here and there are missing.

Unfortunately renting from Goldcar Gibraltar was an experience i would never wish to repeat. Having arrived on time to collect 2 cars (which it turns out they didn't have available) - it took a further 2hrs to pick up the cars. With 4 small children in tow it didn't really get the holiday off to a good start.

Fraudsters. Charged €200 for damage, despite seeing a time stamped photo showing that the damage was already present when the vehicle was collected. Then lied by saying that the charge would be refunded if I emailed the pictures, before taking a month to respond, and still refuse to refund the charge.

Dear customer, Please note that in order to pick up a car it is compulsory to block a deposit on a valid credit card or book one of the coverages that we offer. Our staff will always inspect the cars after each use and will mark the damages on the checkout sheet. However, we always ask customers to double check this since the cars can receive damage during their stay in the parking lot. This way both parties are aware of the damage that the car has on it before departing. On return, if our agents find damages that were not marked, they proceed to investigate and if it's considered that it occurred during this rental period, the customer will be charged for it. on-line booking price was quoted as 108 euro's, final price 175euro , this did not include fuel, you have to pay them an admin fee and money for them to supply you with a car that has fuel and then you also have to pay for the fuel you use, what ? so you pay twice I have my own insurance but they put so much pressure on you to accept theirs and you can tell by their attitude that they are going to screw you wherever and whenever they can. Staff attitude stunk and the customer service level was ziltch. Euorpcar initial cost was looking at around 40 euro more than the 108 from Goldstar, so would have worked out cheaper and the service could only have been better. No doubt I will get the usual response to this mail from Goldstar, explaining the additional costs are clearly visible in their terms and conditions, yer ok have they actually looked as it aint that clear, all I do know is that you are going to get ripped Please avoid at all cost, I wish I had looked at the reviews before I booked.

In the first place, you can choose Flex Fuel system, with which you leave a deposit for a full fuel tank the day you pick the car up, and when you return it, the amount of used fuel will be charged by Goldcar and your deposit will be refunded. Don't rent a car from here. The service was fine, the lady was nice but the car wasn't in good shape and they tacked on a €23 Flexi fuel option which me and the four customers ahead of me had absolutely no idea we had signed up for. You can't opt out. And even if you fill your tank you are still ok the hook for the 23 euros.
