Darren was awesome. Being a chef, he gave us real insight into the food here in Bologna. He explained the history and also how things are made, which made the whole experience more meaningful. I’d recommend this tour to anyone coming through Bologna.

One of the highlights of my time in Bologna was undoubtedly the culinary tour. Our guide, Darren J. Atkins, expertly led us through the Quadrilatero, an enchanting market district brimming with fresh pasta shops, prosciutto, cheese counters, and narrow alleyways. With his extensive background in the food industry and worldly travel experiences, Darren proved to be a natural guide and an engaging storyteller.

We took the guided tour and it was absolutely perfect. The guide was passionate, clear, and full of interesting stories that brought Gaudí’s vision to life. Every corner of the Sagrada Familia felt like a work of divine inspiration! It was emotional, captivating, and unforgettable! Gaudí’s masterpiece is truly one of a kind, an architectural wonder that touches the soul, it was really emotional! Every second of this experience was worth it. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Barcelona!

We definitely recommend Tours and the City for anyone planning guided tours in Europe! We joined both their Vatican and Colosseum tours while in Rome, and both were incredibly informative, well-organized, and absolutely worth the cost—especially with the benefit of skipping the long lines. If you find yourself in Barcelona, this is the tour company you want to hire. I booked several tours in Barcelona but this company had the best guide and customer service. Irina with a background of Architecture gave us a beautiful experience immersed in art history, and cultural insights at the Sagrada Familia, later we went to Parc Güell for sunset and the views were amazing. Wonderful tour at the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, our guide Anna qas amazing , we skip the long lines as promised and had a wonderful guided tour in both attractions, really worth it!

We absolutely loved this tour!! It was down pouring all day and was still our favorite day of the trip! The cost for the amount of local food you received was totally worth it and our guide was laid-back but a ton of fun! The spots were the perfect mix and were fantastic! I would go solo, in a group or friends or a significant other, with young kids, with aging parents --it's truly great for everyone! 🧀 ❤️

“This a good tour if you don’t want to be overwhelmed with the details and all the artefacts as you could be here for days looking at everything. Gio got us thru queues quickly which made our time better used. He took us to the key highlights and features and gave us the nutshell versions so we could have a good experience and get to see memorable aspects like Augustus house, Nero’s abode, Titus arch, great view points and of course the amazing Colosseum, and I’m awe struck by the Roman Forum area in itself. Gio was super considerate as I was walking w stick and always asked if I would like an easier way up the steps or hill. He also had a great sense of humor and made the tour enjoyable. He also knew great spots less crowded for some pics and toilets. I would recommend this tour especially if you want to skip queues, be well cared for and get a great overview without being overwhelmed.”

Great tour on super busy weekday. Learned some things we hadn't heard before about the Forum and Colosseum. Skipping line is helpful in some spots. But with lots of tour groups those lines are sometimes longer. But our guide had no problems with any of those and other hiccups.

100% do this tour. Just the value of skipping the lines made every penny worth it. I had no idea how long the lines were, but with this group experience the longest we waited was five minutes. This trip was so excellent! Our guide, Federiko was friendly, funny and had great stories and facts to share. Even though it was a rainy evening, we had the best time trying all the local food in Bologna. You would never think to order the things our guide did and so each stop was delicious and exciting. This was a great tour experience. It was a nice way to be introduced to Bologna and the food scene before doing further exploration on my own afterwards. We loved our tour! Carlo was a great guide, very knowledgeable, funny, great storyteller and we honestly could not have done it without him. The tour lasted 3 hours and we learned a lot about the history and culture. He showed us tons of photos from the past and showed us little details that we would never had seen. I can't recommend the Bologna gastronomic experience highly enough. Bologna itself is a great city, however participating in this experience really elevated our stay. Our tour guide Darren was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the fact that he's a chef meant he was able to explain things in great detail and with passion. Darren started by giving us a bit of the history of Bologna for context, before walking us around some of his favourite shops and eateries. We tried all of the foods that you'd expect, including the meats (mortadella, parma hams etc.) as well as the famous Parmigiano Reggiano, amongst other things. We also sat down to try some of the tortellini in broth, as well as the tagliatelle ragu - with some local red wine added for good measure! It was a great way to spend time in Bologna and to understand the food and its history in a lot more detail than you would by just eating out. Would highly recommend this tour, and Darren as our guide in particular. Awesome experience, with great food and an excellent and knowledgeable guide (Darren).

Such a wonderful tour! Our guide was fun, patient, helpful, and very intelligent about Bologna and the food. There were 7 people on the tour and it was a good size — everyone could get to know one another. The food was exceptional: breakfast item, cheese, focaccia, cured meats, wine, pastas and gelato. I came to Bologna for the food and this knocked it out of the park. I would definitely do it again!

Great tour of the Forum and Colloseum. Peter had a wealth of knowledge and experience of the history that he was happy to share. Use of the small transmitters with earpiece was nice so he didn't have to talk loud while we all gathered close, allowing for a more relaxed and personal experience

We booked a Vatican Museum tour on our honeymoon trip and had an amazing experience. Francesco was a fantastic guide! He did a wonderful job walking us through the art and history of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. Would highly recommend!

The Vatican is such an incredibly enormous and magical place! Wow! Our tour guide, Cinzia, was very knowledgeable, attuned to the group needs, and helped us move through the Vatican efficiently without missing anything important. I learned so much! Definitely don’t miss this tour! One thing we learned is that the year 2025 is a jubilee year, so it’s going to be really busy at the Vatican during 2025. Go now before it gets too busy.

The only way to see the Vatican is with a guide, you learn so much more about what you are seeing. The crowds at the museum can be overwhelming, so to have someone lead you through is was so helpful. Would recommend this tour to everyone!

Wonderful evening food tour with our guide Federica. She was engaging and knowledgeable about Bologna history and was kind and inclusive to everyone in our group. what an awesome experience. Donatella was our guide and was absolutely fantastic. We breezed through parts of the museum that were less interesting which allowed her to point out art pieces and points of interest that were significantly more important. For example, she was able to point out the incredible tapestries created by Raphael and their artistic significance and contribution to perspective. She was also very diligent about keeping the group together and knew where everyone was at all times.

Lorena was our guide and she’s amazing! Love her stories, excellent story teller. She’d transport you back to whatever century she’s talking about. Honestly, one would not be able to appreciate the colosseum or the roman forum without a guide. A truly remarkable experience having Lorena as our guide. Thank you 💙

Incredible storytelling. Francesco did not pause during the entire tour. The Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill really came alive for us, as we were helped to construct a vivid imagination of past events. Perhaps from now on when I encounter Roman history, I will be transported back to my face-to-face encounter with the past here in Rome.

Excellent tour! Our guide was super friendly and informative. She took time to explain stories behind the more famous collections. Meeting up was easy. Make sure you are well rested and prepared to walk for 3 hours. It’s a lot to take in but well worth it!

The colosseum part of the tour was amazing. We were travelling with a young child so it was a bit of a trek to get to Palatine and the Forum. Very knowledgeable and informative trip. The guide was very informative.

For my Food Tour in Rome, Paola was a excellent & enthusiastic guide. The food was all delicious & once finished, couldn't wait for the next one! The other people on the tour quickly became friends, which made for a shared experience too. I always do one of these on my first night & recommend you do too - try this one!

Great tour, book an early tour if visiting in the summer. It gets very hot! We had a 9am tour that lasted 3 hours. By the halfway point I was ready to be done. The tour guide was great about letting the group stop, take pictures, bathroom breaks, and rest under a tree or shade if needed. The location is amazing and there were a ton of people, the guide included an earpiece and microphone that allowed us to hear the tour guide perfectly without having to huddle very close around each other to be able to hear. This was great because we were able to spread out, view different things and still listen to his guided tour information. I would do this tour again, definitely EARLY in the day.

I highly recommend doing a food tour with them. We did it on our first day in Rome and it helped us see the the sights, culture, and taste the delicious authentic foods! Our guide, Eduardo, was so kind and personable and fun!!!!

Great group tour that provided exactly what you would want from the guide. Great information on the structure, the history of what we were looking at in each stop. I didn't realize the addition of the Imperial House or the Roman Forum were included, a nice surprise! It was HOT and our guide made sure to find shaded areas as he talked through the history. We really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it! Francesco was very friendly and professional, and a very knowledgeable host. Of course, skipping the large queues and having tickets sorted was amazing. We chose this tour because we wanted in-depth historical explanations, rather than surface level info. Francesco delivered in spades! The use of a microphone and in ear headphones meant it was always easy to hear, and Francesco guided the way so we never got lost. The tour also included visual artworks and diagrams on an iPad held by the host, which helped bring to life the artefacts and buildings.

Our guide had an encyclopedic knowledge of the sites and presented it in a way that was easily understood and entertaining. He was very friendly and personable. He deserves the 5 star rating. Highly recommended.

Francesco was very passionate and knowledgeable about the ruins. I was looking to learn more about what I was seeing- as there are limited signs- and got it. It is my 2nd time to Colosseum in 4 years and I learnt so much more on this tour. Roman Forum was my first time and Francesco did a great job giving us an overview and answering our detailed questions. Tip: it was pouring with rain (not F's fault!) so check weather forecast and come prepared with umbrella, waterproofs as limited shelter on tour. Also a lot of walking and the sights don't have many places to sit. I recomend this tour and wish you sunny and dry weather!

DO THIS TOUR! Wow, my family and I were blown away by this tour. Francesco was our guide and he was absolutely fantastic. Meeting up with him was really easy, but that's expected. Let me tell you what was really amazing. Francesco kicked off the tour at the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill instead of the Colosseum. That was surprising for me but so appreciated. The storytelling throughout was an amazing buildup to the climax that is the Colosseum. Francesco not only gave us a run down of the history, but he really made us imagine what life was like back in the days of the Romans. Obviously what we see are ruins, but he had a tablet with him on which he showed us what the various structures would have looked like back then. That was a real game changer and brought the experience to life for us. I learned so much just from this tour and being a curious guy, I had a lot of questions for Francesco. He had the answers to all of them. He is a truly knowledgeable guide, keen to share his passion with us tourists. Very obviously, you will notice that the tour is extremely crowded. Francesco was one of the few courteous, calm and patient guides. Where other guides would cut in front, trying to speak over everyone else, Francesco took his time with a smile on his face the entire time and taught us more than we could have ever hoped for. Highly recommend this tour!”

The visit of the uffizi was a great experience. The displays, the sheer number of masterpieces is astonishing. Our guide (Christiano) was outstanding. Not only his knowledge of the history of art is deep and broad, but his commentaries on the masterpieces were consistently insightful, somrtimes pointing to an interesting detail, sometimes adding historical context, or an enlightening anecdote about the artist. A real delight to listen to him. The museum itself needs to streamline the crowds. The ability to cut the line with the guide proved essential and a huge time saver. This is the second guide tour I took with this company and I was delighted both times. They clearly select very knowledgeable guides, friendly and fascinating to listen to.”

Our guide was dynamic and captivating, with extensive knowledge of the history and subject-matter of our tour at the Colosseum! He issues each person an ear piece, which allows you to hear him clearly over the noise of all of the tourists, the colosseum can be really crowded, but of course it's out of the guide controls. He brings a large iPad, to help explain visually the evolution and history of the buildings and artifacts contained within! We really recommend this experience, the communication was perfect and easy to find, we really loved it!

We did the Vatican tour on 2 Nov with a group of 13 friends. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Silvia as our guide. She pointed out all the interesting details of the gorgeous paintings and artefacts. A good story teller. She must have done it hundreds of times but her enthusiasm did not wane. She was also very clear in her speech, we understood her perfectly. Also my appreciation to Fede of Tours and the City for the prompt and professional arrangements. He kept in touch from the time we booked and sent reminders to us about the tour. Would recommend anyone looking for a local tour in Rome to go with Tours and the City.

My son and I had the experience of a lifetime with Silvia. She was a font of knowledge and enthusiasm and guided us in the most caring way imaginable. This tour is great. it's basically a high-level overview of what the Vatican Museums are, how and why they're connected to the Vatican across its history, with a good sprinkling of art and Catholic history mixed in. It was great for my family (11 & 13 year old kids) as the storytelling gives enough context to make the galleries make sense. Our group agreed to go through to St. Peter's, so our guide was able to skip us through that line as well and talk us through the basics of that incredible structure as well. Our guide, Daniela, was fantastic. Highly recommended.

We had a disgusting experience with this company. After we arrived a few minutes later than the starting time, the group had already left and passed through the ticket gates for the Colosseum, meaning that we were completely unable to enter. They made no attempt to allow for us to rejoin them, and then gave us false hope by suggesting that we could join the group two hours later for the remaining part of the tour. We dutifully waited for two hours, and then stood at the Colosseum exit for over 45 minutes waiting to find the group - sending numerous messages to the hosts who did nothing to help us. They effectively caused us to waste half of our day and throw away the entire price of the tour and ticket. I was apprehensive about reserving an experience with a low review score below 4.8, and now my worries have been confirmed. Irreparably hostile business practices and ethics - if you make the slightest mistake, you can expect to be on your own. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM.

Manuela gave us an exclusive four-course tour of some terrific eating spots. We started with with a delicious fried fish appetizer at a small place near Campo de Fiori with wine, and then crossed the Tiber to Trastevere where we sampled two wonderful pasta specialities – Carbonara and Amatriciana + red wine. We then moved to a restaurant that served a delicious pork stew, before finishing up at a tiny gelateria for some fantastic ice cream. Manuela tailored the entire tour to our gastronomic preferences, and provided lively conversation along with the way. She was a terrific guide! We really suggest this experience to everyone visiting Rome

I took the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill tour with Irene. You will experience these monuments completely differently with a guided tour! It had a good pace with short stops for photos, water, and restroom breaks. The audio equipment was clear and effective. Irene was very considerate of the group and was clearly experienced as she was able to answer any questions.

Manuela took us on an amazing tour in Trastevere! We met on a rainy night in Rome - we were the only couple who decided to walk through Trastevere with Manuela in the pouring rain. The old streets of Rome were slick and beautiful, and it made the experience even more magical. We started with Aperol Spritz and cheese and meats at a small local café. Next, we walked through the streets to a little pasta restaurant with a rooftop terrace that Raffaello took his lover to sip wine. Next we walked through the winding streets to a little restaurant with a secret underground cellar that Julius Caesar frequented a few thousand years ago. The cellar was opened exclusively for us, and we drank red wine and ate pork stew that is made following a secret recipe that has been handed down through the ages. We ended with incredible gelato at a little corner shop. But the best part was the experience Manuela brought to our Trastevere tour - she was fun, knowledgeable, and friendly. All in all, the experience was magical!

What a magical city and this tour added to our experience. We enjoyed the food, locations, walking the neighborhoods, and talking with everyone. I’d do it all over again!

We think that it was well created and the time that we invested in every part of the experience was well structured. Very informative Vatican museum tour! Lorena was so passionate about the history and the art. She didn’t just recite the same old script— you could tell that she was including extra tidbits that she herself found fascinating. Do be aware that a good 30-45mins of the tour will be spent outside in an area with little shade, so bring sunscreen or perhaps a shade umbrella if it’s sunny and hot.

Francesco was our guide and he was fantastic! He moved through the spaces at a good pace covering so much in three hours. He was happy to answer any of our questions and was super friendly, polite, and knowledgable. The ease of having someone having sorted tickets, and getting straight through entry points easily is appreciated. As a solo traveller, this was a great way to get to walk around, looking at sites, and have a bit of a chat to some other people.

This was a great experience and very interesting tour to learn about the history of the the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum. The tour guide was very friendly, funny and good with children. I would recommend doing this tour if it is your first time visiting Rome.

Cecilia is extremely friendly and she really loves what she does. We could recognize her passion for the museums and pass on her knowledge! we really had a great time with her, we would not have been able to discover that much and learnign that much in only three hours

Francesco was a wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. His background in art history certainly added to nuggets of information along the way that we otherwise might not have known or found out about. There are so many wow moments along the tour, which Francesco was sure to point out to us! The tour is small and personal as opposed to some of the massive tours we walked passed. When other tour guides around us were seemingly quiet, Francesco kept us intrigued with his stories and knowledge. The team has impeccable communication (both during the tour and after). We needed some extra help for our trip and Frederico (part of Tours and The City team) was incredibly generous to assist us!

We booked a last minute food tour and Manuela was amazing!! We ended up with a private tour for our group, and the experience was top notch, start to finish! We had amazing food, great wine, and best of all, Manuela told us so many things about Rome that we didn’t know. We got to try hidden gems we would never have found on our own. We had an amazing experience in the early morning with Lore and were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour, it was like a private experience. We felt very grateful not to be in a big group of 20 people as we have seen in others group! The Sistine Chapel was amazing and she prepared us in a perfect way, since it's forbidden to speak inside. Lore had a great depth of insight into all things Vatican and she even provide more recommendations for our stay in Rome. Booked this tour through AirBnB and we LOVED it. Very clear instructions to meet our tour guide, Anna at the Vatican. Anna was super knowledgeable and answered all of our (many) questions. We loved having a small intimate tour group especially seeing how large some of the other tour groups were. We learned so much - would do again!

Fede was our guide. Very smooth and fast entrance to the Vatican museum. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our groups questions with in depth details. It prepares you well for the Sistine Chapel. The museum is huge. Fede picked a good amount of important pieces and rooms to explain during the tour. After the tour we spend some additional time in other sections of the museum. It is a good balanced approach and the group size was perfect.

That was an amazing experience at the Vatican! Our guide was Ilaria, she kept our attention for the whole time of the experience, so much knowledge and interesting fact all concentrated inside this huge museum! The Campo di Fiore and Travestere food tour was a great sampling of iconic dishes of Rome and each step was accompanied by delicious local wine. Our guide Manuela did a great job leading us throughout these two neighborhoods and telling us about the local life and histories. The food was spectacular as well and introduced me to restaurants and dishes I wouldn’t have known about.

Our guide was awesome. We went on experience with her in January during the height of Covid. Rome was essentially shut down and she did a great job of keeping us entertained, explaining to us culture and tradition, and letting us taste great food that we would have otherwise never found. This tour is definitely the one to do in Rome! Valentina was super cool, friendly, and knew what she was talking about. We went to 5 different places and I was stuffed by the end! Only one glass of wine and a small cup of beer so don’t expect too much in the way of alcohol, but the food was great! We went to several different parts of the city. Ones that we would never have gone too. The wine cellar restaurant was the best. There is a lot of walking so be prepared for that.

This tour is not only great way to taste the best food in Rome but also get to know new people you probably wouldn‘t have met otherwise! Valentina is a great tour guide! She is really open and kind and can answer any question you have about Rome and food in the city! I enjoyed the experience and would definetaly recommend it to every one.

My husband, son and daughter-in-law had a wonderful evening. The food was very good. We enjoyed learning a bit more about the Trastevere area, one of our favorite neighborhoods in Rome. We had a great bottle of Sangiovese in an ancient wine cellar. Nicola and Serena were excellent hosts, taking an interest in the members of the group. We met a beautiful family from Dayton, Ohio. Their three lovely children were one of the highlights of the tour for us. Altogether, a memorable experience. I would recommend highly.

Manuela was an excellent tour guide! She not only showed us great food and wine, but she also taught us various things about Roman history! She was very kind and really wanted to get to know us. I would definitely do another tour with her and highly recommend for first time visitors!
