Málaga Activa Tours

We had a fantastic experience with Alfonso at Malaga Activa Tours for the Caminito del Rey! Alfonso was always readily available via WhatsApp to answer any questions, which was very reassuring. Even though we got caught in the morning rush hour coming from Nerja and were running late to the meeting point, Alfonso kindly waited a few extra minutes for us. (He does have a required time to reach the Caminito, so there is some limit to flexibility, which is understandable.) The van was clean and comfortable, and the tour itself was excellent. It was informative and enjoyable, and being in a smaller group of just 8 people made it even better. I have a fear of heights, but the trail was perfectly manageable for me. The bridge was the most challenging part, but it wasn’t too difficult as long as I didn’t look down! Overall, we really enjoyed our day and would definitely book any other tours with Alfonso. He is friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable—an absolute pleasure to tour with.

First off if you're going to do any tours in Malaga, please book it with this group. This was the absolute best decision we did while visiting Malaga. Alfonso was a wonderful and fantastic host. He was very informative and answered any questions the group had for him. Another positive is that these groups are a small, maximum of eight people. So not only do you get a more personable tour, you get to meet and talk with new and fantastic people in the group. During the entire tour we felt safe, with a well-organized host. If we were ever to visit Malachi again we would absolutely do another tour with this group. Thank you for your courteousness, and professionalism during the tour we enjoyed it very much.

What a great time with Alfonso at Caminito del Rey. The walk had lots of heights but only a few uphill areas. We weren’t rushed and Alfonso gave us great information. We also spent lots of time talking about our families and sports. He made the entire trip very personal. Lastly, the bread, ham, and cheese were a perfect picnic ending!

Wir haben die El Saltillo gorge & white village Tour gebucht. Die Online-Buchung verlief völlig problemlos und die gesamte Kommunikation war freundlich und professionell. Die Tour selbst verlief genau so, wie auf der Homepage beschrieben. Die Gruppengröße ist auf 8 Personen begrenzt, mehr passen in den Kleinbus des Unternehmens nicht hinein. Alfonso ist ein ausgezeichneter Guide, der uns während der gesamten Tour mit ausführlichen Erklärungen versorgt hat und unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf viele, manchmal versteckte, Dinge gelenkt hat. Besonders haben uns seine Erläuterungen zu der vielfältigen Pflanzenwelt gefallen. Auch das (von ihm in seinem Rucksack transportierte) Picknick war eine sehr gute Idee und hat allen gut geschmeckt, vielen Dank Alfonso! Insgesamt 5 ehrliche Sterne für Málaga Activa Tours und wir können diese phantastische Tour wirklich uneingeschränkt empfehlen!

We joined two tours with Alfonso. Both great experiences! Alfonso is a knowledgeable and nice guide to go hike with. I would recommend this small group tour company to anyone who wants to go hiking for 2-3 hrs outside Malaga.

Wow! We had a great private tour of Caminito Del Rey with Alfonso. He picked our group up at the cruise ship port, drove us out to the park and kept a great pace for our 7.5 km hike. He knew so much about the history, and ecology of the area. He answered everyone’s questions and share some of his own stories about his past tours. After we finished we enjoyed a light picnic lunch and another scenic ride back to the port. I would definitely recommend his tour to others.

Trio to Caminito del Rey was great!

One of the best things we have ever done. Alfonso was very friendly and that helped group dynamics. The meeting spot was easy to find and we had a lovely drive down. Weather was perfect for the tour and Alfonso provided water and a lovely picnic afterwards. Would highly recommend!

Me and my partner had been eagerly anticipating upcoming trip to Malaga. After meticulously planning every detail, from flights to accommodations, We were excited to embark on this adventure together. One of the highlights of your itinerary was an exciting activity recommended by Airbnb, despite its hefty price tag. However, just a day before your departure, our excitement was dampened when we received a message from Alfonso via Airbnb. To our dismay, he informed my girlfriend that our reservation had been abruptly canceled without any explanation, and his tone was rather rude. Adding insult to injury, he suggested that you rebook if you didn't want to lose your slots for the tour. Since he has no respect for my girlfriend. I toke over the situation and wrote him, Feeling frustrated by this lack of professionalism and disrespect towards paying customers, i decided to take matters into my own hands. Cuz couldn't bear the thought of someone mistreating my partner, or any woman, simply because they might be perceived as submissive. So, i reached out to Alfonso directly, expressing my extreme inconvenience at the last-minute cancellation and the unapologetic manner in which it was handled. In response, Alfonso attempted to salvage the situation by offering a discount. However, his insistence that we book the tour through an unknown website raised red flags for me. Refusing to be swayed by his attempts to sidestep Airbnb and avoid paying commission, i politely declined his offer. I cited concerns about the deceptive nature of his actions and how they could negatively impact people's trips. Although i wished him well, i made it clear that i didn't want this negativity to overshadow your vacation. His actions had left a negative impression of Spain and its hospitality.

Alfonso arrived promptly at the pickup point and from start to finish everything went smoothly. Max 8 guests in the van, which was clean and like new with good aircon. He didn’t rush people on the walk, looked after slower walkers and calmed my nerves about the suspension bridge! Lots of info about the Caminito and the flora and fauna of the national park. It’s a fantastic trip and I highly recommend this company.

2023 edit: I came back to Málaga and did two more tours with Alfonso - the Caminito del Rey and the Torcal de Antequera. Again, I really loved the trips - great value, beautiful places, really nice company, thoroughtly recommended. My original 2020 review: I highly recommend doing a tour with this company. Alfonso is a warm, friendly, knowledgeable guide who takes care of the group really well. The hike I went on was beautiful and I met fantastic people through it too. I particularly appreciated how Alfonso accommodated me at the last minute. The day trip turned into the best day of the holiday for me - great company, stunning views, a picnic in the mountains and wine tasting as the sun set. I will definitely do another trip if I come back to Andalucia!

Great tour by Alfonso! He added some historical context as well as information about the geology, flora and fauna of the area. The pace was not rigorous, but total distance is about 7.5 km and you can only go one way so you need to be prepared for the weather 😊 Highly recommend using Malaga Activa Tours!!

I'm so thankful I did a "free" walking tour with Paula as my guide. It was in Spanish, which I spoke very little of, but she was ok with me asking questions. She also recommended setting up a private tour in Merida with just me and my son!

We joined Malaga Activa tour to Camino Del Rey, well organised and convenient, just meet up the group near city center in Malaga, me and my husband got the chance to meet other 6 tour mates which is a great way to meet new friends. The tour guide Alfronso is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide, he introduced a lot the history, geography and plant knowledge all the way in the trip, and gave us plenty of photo time and he also made nice picnic lunch for all of us. Camino del Rey is a must go, bucket list destination if you are visiting Malaga and I would definitely recommend Afronso and Malaga activa tour

Did the Frigiliana hike and had an absolutely fantastic time! Alfonso clearly loves what he does and knows so much about the area. Would highly recommend any tour from this company to anyone who is looking for something great to do while in Malaga. Can’t recommend enough!

I was on a group tour to Frigiliana and Acequia de Lazar with Alfonso. After hiking we were trying tapas and local wines. It was such a nice trip 😊 Alfonso is an interesting and experienced guide and traveler, so you can get some new information about local area but also other countries. I highly recommend!

What a wonderful day with Alfonso! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. The hike itself was remarkably beautiful, not too challenging with plenty of opportunities for photos. This is a must for anyone travelling to Malaga - I stayed in the area for over a month and this was my favourite excursion.

Die Caminito del Rey Tour war großartig. Kleine Gruppe - nur 8 Personen, schöne Fahrt, angenehme Betreuung. Der Weg durch die Felslandschaft war traumhaft. Alonso hat uns alles geduldig erklärt, genug Zeit für Fotobegeisterte, gemütliches Wandern über dem Abgrund. Zwischendurch wurden wir noch mit einem zünftigen Snack verwöhnt Bananen, frisches Baguette und leckere spanisch Wurst. Malaga Activa Tours können wir nur empfehlen 👍

I live in Malaga and wanted to take my family from England to do el Caminito del Rey. I booked direct with Alfonso on his web page- all very easy and clear. We had the most amazing morning! Alfonso is a great guide, very funny, knowledgeable and attentive. The hike itself is very easy. Even my 85 year- old mum managed it no problem. Alfonso was very patient and kind with her. She loved the attention! We also had a perfectly timed picnic stop with delicious chorizo, cheese, fresh bread and bananas. El Caminito is a really sought-after trip and there were many other people there when we went, but Alfonso made sure we were always well spaced out from other groups so in most of our photos it looked like we were the only people there. If you want a hassle-free, small-group Caminito experience then Alfonso is your man! My family can't wait to try his other trips next time they are here! Muchas gracias Alfonso!!

Un très mauvais premier contact... D'entrée, je me suis faite reprocher d'avoir réservé une activité via la plateforme Viator, alors que Malaga Activa Tours a forcément dû conclure un accord avec ces plateformes intermédiaires pour vendre ses services. Quelques jours après, l'activité a été annulée sous prétexte que le sentier de rando était impraticable; je me suis renseignée de mon côté et l'information a été formellement démentie par deux sources (la Junta de Andalucía et une autre agence concurrente). J'ai écrit à MAT pour me plaindre et, à ce jour, je n'ai reçu aucune réponse... C'est bien dommage.

Did the Caminito del Rey with Alfonso. Picked up from a central, accessible location in Malaga. He knew our names straightaway as he only takes small group tours. Really knowledgeable and communicated the history, geography and biodiversity well in excellent English. Great tour and great guide.

We booked the El Saltillo trip for a friends birthday (3 of us) as a surprise. The trip was cancelled with <24 hours notice (after we had to message the host to see if it was running), due to not having the minimum number of people (6), there was no mention of this being a possibility on the website. One star for a prompt refund being given but very disappointed given the lack of communication and the stress this has caused with having to replan with such little notice.

I did two tours with Alfonso and both were excellent. El Torcal de Antequera is a hidden gem and such a tranquil area. El Caminito del Rey is fantastic and definitely the highlight of my trip. Alfonso took care of us at all times, was extremely respectful of the environment and all those we encountered. I don't usually use group trips but for both locations it is totally necessary - but I did not need to worry because Alfonso was so easy going and excellent at breaking the ice among the group. He has a wealth of information and is an excellent tour guide.

Visited Caminito del Rey with a small group and a little bit in a rush. Explanations were both in Spanish and English (bit less). Despite some of us were freezing in the van while getting to and away from the site, it was an overall nice experience, the canyons are gorgeous and the views breathtaking. I'd recommend to visit the site independently or in a small group as ours was.

Today we hiked the Caminitas del Rey canyon trail and it was amazing. Alfonso, our guide, lead us through the canyon that is just spectacular. The water erosion of the river has resulted in a narrow, extremely deep canyon with sheer sided walls. Most of the trail is on a beautifully engineered boardwalk that has been literally attached to the side of the cliff walls with steel cables. Alfonso picked us up in Malaga, along with six other hikers, in a comfortable van and took us to the canyon. He then lead us through the canyon while explaining the interesting history and the geology of the area. All n all it was a fantastic day. Many thanks to Alfonso.

I did the Caminito del Rey Tour with Alfonso - it was all easy going, well organized and entertaining. Afterwards Alfonso has sent us pictures and a list of recommendations of places to eat and drink. Even afterwards when I asked him if he knew where to do an antigen-test I needed for travel, he forwarded me a contact directly, which was much of a help even days after the tour - I appreciate the help!

Ik had een geweldige ervaring met Alfonsi! Onwijs gezellige man, wist veel te vertellen en houdt van grappen maken. Hij maakt de tour zo comfortabel mogelijk en denkt ook absoluut aan de veiligheid van zijn leden. De tour zelf was een intens mooie ervaring, heb genoten van iedere stap en ieder mooi uitzicht. An awe inspiring experience with a caring, interested and interesting person. I am not used to heights but I felt safe and secure with Alfonso guiding. I also wondered if at 65 years old and not really an outdoors person I would manage the trek , but it was easy going. Alfonso kept his eye on all of us as a whole while engaging with us as individuals as well and recounted many stories of the mountains in an informative and humorous manner. This is an once in a life time experience! The scenery in Caminito Del Rey is absolutely breathtaking! The walkway is a combination of ease and excitement, you get to walk on suspended bridge and wooden walkpath on the side of the cliff for a good amount of time during the hike, then you get to enjoy the thrill and the beautiful scenery surrounding you - it’s like otherworldly. You won’t regret going! Most importantly - Alfonso is really nice and funny and a great guide! :) Thank you so much!

This was the highlight of y Spain trip. I went to 10 different major cities and this was the most memorable of all. If you’re in Malaga, you just have to do this. It’s so beautiful. Alfonso was a great guide and had a lot of knowledge about the location and it’s history. I’m glad I booked this and you should too!!!! Just do it. If you like nature, walking, hiking, exploring and learning, don’t think twice.

Het is een grootse en indrukwekkende ervaring! Vind je het leuk om alleen rond te lopen voor het maken van foto's, dan zou ik niet met een tour gaan. Houd je er juist van om er meer meer achtergrond te leren en echt een unieke ervaring op te doen: doe dan deze tour! Geweldige combinatie van activiteit en het leren van nieuwe informatie. Hij is erg vriedenlijk en geïnteresseerd. Ook weet hij veel over de rest van Malaga, natuur, omgeving en geeft hiervoor tips voor tijdens je verblijf!

This is an experience not to be missed, especially with Alfonso who was attentive, informative and a great guide to be with on this exciting adventure. His communications before and after the event were exceptional and his photos of his guests (which he forwarded immediately afterwards by email ) were of exceptional quality and a great souvenir of the trip. He actively engaged with all members of the group who were of diverse origins --- French, American, Australian, Korean and Cuban. He was keen to learn information from all of their backgrounds and has obviously travelled worldwide. Overall, a very enjoyable and memorable trip to a remarkable place. Great photo opportunities to take snaps that will astound your friends and family: they'll think you were so brave to attempt these pathways, although there was never any concerns about its safety.
