My husband and I have twice enjoyed fabulous vacations to Spain and just recently also to Portugal using Madrid & Beyond. Everything is top shelf, from the more than fabulous hotels in great locations to the food and historical tours with extremely knowledgeable guides to unforgettably unique experiences (homemade lunch on a bull ranch with a matador) created by an extraordinary staff. Truly the best in every aspect.

I’m very sad to be bucking the trend on the Madrid & Beyond reviews. But our experience was less than stellar. We found them through a domestic travel agency and booked a Portugal trip with them in 2022, which we cancelled due to COVID. The trip had been prepaid in full. Madrid and Beyond would not return any of the funds remaining after non-refundable hotel cancellation fees. They would only hold the unused funds for a future trip. Eight months later, we asked them to rebook the same trip, at the same time of year and were informed that the price to do so would be greater than 40% more than the year prior. So, at that point we had a choice to either forfeit the funds being held, or ante up many more unexpected thousands of dollars. When I requested a reasonable explanation and transparency in the form of a cost breakdown for the original and current itineraries I was told that the increase was due to “inflation” and that transparency would not be provided as a matter of policy. We definitely feel as though we were held hostage and the communication from M & B management after that, including the remaining planning, was very terse and very unsatisfactory. We were given the impression they just didn’t care and that the held funds had been a ruse. We ended up succumbing to the hostage situation and taking the trip in 12/22. In fairness, the accommodations, guides and drivers arranged by M & B were all very good to excellent, and the trip was wonderful. But, they made zero effort beyond that to assist with our trip and left us with a sour enough taste over the hostage situation and their indifference that we would not use them again, nor recommend them. Unsurprisingly, as of the date of this post, they have yet to contact us about our trip to see how it went. I think that is clear testimony to their level of indifference. Update following Madrid & Beyond reply: I stand by every word of my review as completely and entirely factual. And despite the slick reply from Madrid & Beyond, I don't believe we misunderstood anything, at all. And their explanation about the high cost of our Christmas plans is the very first time I am hearing that - both our original and rescheduled itineraries were over Christmas. Even when we inquired about how to bring the cost of the trip down, we were told that the costs were what they were owing to 'increased demand and inflation' (again with zero transparency or breakdown, and no options offered other than to lose the original investment or to ante up an additional 40%+), and it was not suggested to us that we spend Christmas elsewhere, in fact we were pushed, tersely, toward the "expensive" property (with no idea of its cost). And... it is categorically false that Madrid & Beyond reached out to us on the last day of our trip. Their reply is simply disingenuous and untrustworthy.

If you are planning a trip to Spain or Portugal, Madrid and Beyond should be your first call. We have worked with them twice, once on a visit to Andalucia in Spain and, more recently, on a trip to Portugal. Their representatives will take the time to listen to you to learn your interests and custom design a trip tailored to your wishes. During your trip, you will always feel like they are standing right by your side to help you through any issues that may arise along the way. This is a professional, experienced travel company in whom you can place your trust.

Amazing shopping and culinary experience

Madrid & Beyond is a luxury travel service for people who want to explore Spain and/or Portugal. My husband and I have used this company three times in the last four years and are more impressed and gratified each time. We are treated like royalty by the Madrid & Beyond team as well as all of the drivers and guides they hire. The associates come up with inventive itineraries that are interesting and fun. They discover your interests and then expand on them to give you a little more than what you think you want. The hotels they book are lovely in every way. The private drivers are punctual, friendly and accommodating. The tour guides are knowledgeable, patient, warm and friendly. We just completed our third trip to Spain in March 2022. The company not only planned fabulous itineraries for each, but they came to our aid when we really needed help. We were in a teeny town in Northwest Spain in March 2020 when the pandemic hit and the U.S. was closing its borders to international flights in only a few days. Madrid & Beyond had a driver take us on a wonderful tour of private gardens while associates some how rebooked us on one of the last flights out of Madrid for the U.S. It was amazing. Madrid & Beyond is an extraordinary travel agency! My mother and I traveled to Spain for 14 days. The trip focused on Spain's history, including 9 private tours, a flamenco show, and a bull fight. The guides were phenomenal! They were knowledgeable, professional, and enthusiastic. We did not have to wait in long lines to get into historical sites. Our time was devoted to sightseeing and enjoying Spain instead. Madrid & Beyond took care of every detail. Carla responded promptly to any concerns or questions. She customized our trip to our needs and preferences. It felt like we had a good friend with connections in each city. I highly recommend Madrid & Beyond.

We had an excellent 8 night trip to Andalusia using the careful planning of Madrid and Beyond. After waiting a few days for a first reply, they were always responsive and attentive to lots of detail, such as restaurant guiding and reservations over New Years. The guides (independent contractors) were all excellent. We ended up participating quite a bit in the choices, which we enjoy anyway. Their expertise was much appreciated.
