Torrevieja’s pretty promenade and marina are surrounded by four lovely beaches including Playa del Cura, Playa los Locos, Playa del Acequion and Playa Naufragos. Next to the port and central to the city is the most popular and sandy beach, Playa del Cura. Ringed by the promenade which has a good selection of cafe’s, bars and restaurants, the white sandy beach is often presented with the Blue Flag Status Award and has amenities such as beach sports and play areas, lifeguards, showers and WC’s. Playa Los Locos is right next door and enjoys similar facilities as well as a large rope climbing frame and floating platform in the sea. Playa Naufragos is smaller and located in a residential area just south of the city centre, although less popular, it still receives upwards of 6000 visitors per day in the peak summer months and offers good disability access as well as a specially adapted bathing chair. Playa del Acequion is a great for families with small children as it has gently sloping sands and calm waters. It is also a good choice for those wishing to enjoy a meal during their visit as there is a selection of restaurants directly on the beach offering reasonably priced menu del dia’s (menu of the day) as well as a choice of a la carte meals.

Torrevieja entertains visitors with a whole host of super attractions, great days out, parks & plazas, historical buildings, museums and sporting facilities. There are all sorts of water sports options including the latest craze of Fly Boarding. Torrevieja Sports City is one of the cities most spectacular landmarks and no expense has been spared in the construction of the huge complex and sports fields. The complex boasts indoor and outdoor facilities for practically every sport imaginable and includes an Olympic-standard indoor swimming pool, outdoor pool, tennis, paddle tennis, athletics, squash, basketball, gymnastics, handball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, rugby and various martial arts. A firm favourite attraction with the kids is Aquopolis Water Park, located close to the city centre and offering visitors over 15 thrilling rides and activities for all ages as well as parks and gardens, waterfalls, bars, restaurants and a souvenir shop.

A coastal path winds its way through the entire area from Punta Prima to Campoamor. Along the way are ample establishments where walkers can enjoy a rest and refreshments or stop for a cooling swim. In the centre of the Orihuela Costa is La Zenia, extremely popular with holidaymakers and offering an excellent beach, various shops, bars, restaurants and the famous La Zenia Boulevard, the largest shopping complex in the province of Alicante. The boulevard boasts over 150 shops, boutiques, cafe’s, bars and restaurants including high street names such as Zara, Primark and C&A. There is live entertainment, fountains, many beautiful species of plants, children’s play areas and electric ride on cars & animals. The upper level is mainly dedicated to bars and restaurants and offers lovely sea views. For night time visitors, aside from live entertainment, there is also the Casino Mediterraneo with slot machines, card and roulette tables.

Wining & dining in Torrevieja is a delight with literally hundreds of bars, cafes, tapas bars, restaurants and takeaways to choose from, and the huge Friday Market is ideal for finding fresh local produce at excellent prices. For lovers of fish and seafood, the daily fish market is a must, with its stalls overflowing with the day’s freshest catches, all at very competitive prices. With the city having a large number of Spanish residents and holidaymakers, tapas bars are a local institute and can be found on practically every street corner. It is customary in Spain to have some food when drinking alcohol and tapas is usually served free with your drink order, an excellent way for those on a tight budget to get a free meal !! Visitors to Torrevieja should take the time to stroll around the maze of side streets and beachfront areas where some excellent local and international restaurants can be discovered.

The city of Torrevieja lies on the beautiful Costa Blanca of Spain. Villamartin Plaza is also worth a mention as it sits right next to the golf course. The plaza is built on three levels, around a beautiful central courtyard boasting numerous tropical plants and water features. Visitors to the plaza’s first two floors can enjoy lively bars and top class restaurants serving delicious local and International cuisine while observing the live entertainment from the courtyard. The top level is made up of residential apartments and on the ground floor, there are shops, estate agents, banks, hairdressers, a tattoo artist and supermarket.

For those wishing to combine their beach visit with a bit of exercise, following the promenade north takes you to the neighbouring town of La Mata and it’s very long stretch of beach, favoured by walkers and joggers. Heading south from Torrevieja, the promenade ends and a picturesque coastal path continues, passing through the fantastic beaches, cliffs and coves of the Orihuela Costa.
